What Is KAMRA Inlay?
Unlike intraocular lenses, the KAMRA inlay is only placed in one of your eyes— leaving your non-KAMRA eye completely untouched. As a small disc that is thinner than a contact lens, the KAMRA inlay has a small hole in the center to allow focused light in and out of the eye.
Is It Permanent?
Depending on how much your vision changes, the answer to this question may vary. If your vision worsens over a few years or if you don’t like the KAMRA lens, you can have it removed. Once removed, most patients vision returns to its condition before KAMRA.
What is the Procedure Like?
Lasting around 20 minutes, the KAMRA inlay procedure is fast and easy. In fact, you will be wide awake during the entire thing. To start, your ophthalmologist will place numbing eye drops in your eye. Once numbed, your eye doctor will then create a small pocket in your cornea by using a laser. Following the incision, your eye doctor will then insert the camera into your pocket and sew it up.
What Is Recovery like?
During the first 48 hours following surgery, you will be restricted from driving. During this time you may suffer from light sensitivity, watery, and irritated eyes. After about a week of recovery, most patients notice a change in their ability to see things up close.
